World Judo Day '24 -
World Judo Day was celebrated on Monday night. In honor of the occasion, Waverley Judo hosted a Bring-a-Friend event. The sight of so many smiling faces on the mat was fantastic. It was heartening to see our experienced judoka come together to support our newcomers. The evening was a tremendous success. A big thank you to everyone who invited friends, and a warm appreciation to the friends who participated and shared our passion for the sport.

We're currently working with a supplier to create our very own IJF style backpatches for our junior and senior club players. They are primarily for competition, but they would be fantastic to wear at training too. We haven’t locked in a design at this stage, but this is a sample of the direction we’re heading.

Congrat's on our latest Judoka promotions
It’s been another big couple of weeks at Waverley Judo. Last Friday evening we held a special grading class. We threw the mat open to any seniors who felt they were ready to grade. The class was well attended with several of our Judoka strutting their stuff in front of a panel of Dan Grades. It was refreshing to see quite a few of our newer members coming along just to watch and support their friends.
Thursday 3rd of October we ran a special class for visiting club legend Shihan Mike. These classes never disappoint, as Mike ran another master class on some simple, yet highly effective techniques. To close out the evening, Shihan Mike presented the new belts to our newly promoted Judoka.

Special Training Session- Thurs 3rd Oct
Mike Keane is back in Town!
Living Judo legend and Waverley Judo’s spiritual leader, Mike Keane, is back in Melbourne next week.
To celebrate, the club will be holding a special training session next Thursday night, 3rd of October. Those who have attended one Mike’s sessions previously will attest that they are high energy and extremely informative. It doesn’t matter if you’re a black belt, white belt or something in between - this class is for you. Best of all, it’s covered under your club fees!
Please arrive at 5:30pm to help set up. The session runs from 6pm until 8:30pm.
Please don’t miss out on this rare opportunity to train with a true master of Judo.
We’ll be heading down to Oakleigh for a kebab after the session!
Congrat's Natasha & Tani
The team at Waverley Judo would like to extend our heartfelt and warmest congratulations to our newlywed couple, Natasha and Tani. The lovely couple joyfully tied the knot last Thursday, marking the beginning of a beautiful journey together. We sincerely wish you both all the best for a future filled with endless happiness and cherished moments together. Tani has been a stalwart and dedicated member of our club for over half of his life, having started his judo journey at Waverley when he was just 12 years old. Tani is not only fantastic at judo, but he is also a truly wonderful person; you’ll be hard-pressed to meet a nicer guy!

JVI Spring Tournament 〰️
Well done to the dedicated members of the Waverley Judo Club who bravely competed in the JVI Spring Tournament. As is often the case in competitive sports, there was some fierce opposition on the day, but our lads performed admirably under pressure. The day provided a great litmus test to see not only our strengths but also highlighted some specific areas where we can focus our attention for even greater success next time. Each match served as a valuable learning experience, contributing to the overall growth of our club.
